Banjir di Australia kemudian di Brazil yang terjadi pada awal tahun baru 2011 ini tampak menyedihkan. Banjir di Toowoomba Australia disebut oleh AP sebagai “tsunami-like wall of water through Australia’s waterlogged east, tossing cars like toys, killing at least eight people and leaving 72 missing“.  Sedangkan Anna Bligh pimpinan negara bagian Queensland menyebut banjir yang antara lain menimpa juga kota Brisbane sebagai “one-in-a-hundred-year flood” .Dan kata-kata “biblical proportion” juga muncul pada beberapa caption foto banjir di Australia itu.

Kalau untuk banjir yang di Brazil, mungkin orang dapat mengatakan karena Brazil negara berkembang sehingga masyarakat tidak terlalu taat pada aturan menyebabkan penebangan hutan secara liar yang berakibat banjir. Tapi kalau banjir yang di Australia, sebuah negara maju dengan masyarakat yang teratur dengan disiplin tinggi seperti orang Inggris karena memang sebagian besar masyarakat Australia keturunan Inggris, tentu tidak dapat dikatakan karena ada masyarakat yang tidak taat pada aturan seperti itu.

Mau tak mau aku jadi ingat beberapa bulan lalu, pada awal Agustus 2010 ketika aku sedang kumpulkan beberapa foto berita dari Yahoo News, tiba-tiba hubungan Internet macet dan setiap aku klik ke Yahoo News aku digiring ke Yahoo 7 Australia. Sehingga aku seperti dipaksa untuk turun ke bawah sebab Australia  dikenal sebagai negara “down under”. Aku sempat berpikir mungkin ada yang ingin tes aku, sebagai pembuktian apakah aku benar-benar akan ke atas ke surga di langit meninggalkan dunia fana ini untuk kebaikan umat manusia atau cuman akal-akalanku aja. Dan aku sempat khawatir juga, sebab sudah beberapa kali kamu tes aku dalam soal serupa kemudian muncul beberapa bencana besar.

Setelah aku tulis email ke Yahoo, beberapa hari kemudian baru aku dapat akses lagi ke Yahoo News Amerika. Penting untuk aku tulis email itu, sebab isi berita pada Yahoo 7 Australia tidak selengkap Yahoo Amerika.

Apakah banjir besar di Australia kemudian di Brazil yang terjadi pada awal tahun baru 2011 ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa tes pembuktian kepadaku sudah “berhasil”, entahlah aku sendiri kurang paham ada apa dengan semua ini.

Ada kemiripan dari kedua negara itu yaitu sama-sama baru mulai dipimpin oleh pemimpin perempuan pertama. Brazil sejak awal tahun 2011 dipimpin oleh Dilma Rousseff yang Marxis, dan Australia sejak pertengahan 2010 dipimpin oleh Julia Gillard yang Atheis. Sehingga seperti memuat pesan juga untuk kita yaitu agar kita fokus kepada persoalan kita untuk kebaikan umat manusia dan tidak terpecah konsentrasi kita oleh kepentingan politik.
